From Erddig Hall follow the road that leads out of the park towards Hafod Road. There is a small lodge on your right (before Bryn Goleu Cottage).
Just after the lodge there is a style on the left hand side of the road. The style isn’t obvious and is formed from a strengthened part of the fence but there is a waymarked post in the field just over the style.
The footpath follows Watts Dyke (on your right) across the field. In this field you will often see Highland Cattle and Belties – more commonly seen in Dumfries and Galloway!
In the corner of the first field the path crosses the dyke and you then follow it on your left. There are some very boggy areas as you follow the dyke to the road at Sontley Country Cottages (if you wish you can continue to follow Watts Dyke all the way to Ruabon).
When you meet the road turn left to Middle Sontley (SJ 325 469). The road bears left and ahead is the gate to a bridleway. Follow the bridleway back into the park. Caution this can be very muddy and very overgrown particularly in summer.
The bridleway path comes out at to exit near the smaller lodge at SJ 325 477. You can then head back towards the hall and pick up Erddig Road again.
