For this walk start at Sontley Road car park. Walk out of the car park and turn right. Go up the hill. The road bends round to the left then bears right again and you will see a kissing gate on your right. Go through the gate and onto the path. You will see a farm on your left. Follow the path for approx 200 metres until you see the sign post then turn right. It is easy to miss this post and walk straight past so watch carefully!
From here you can look down through the trees across Frenchmills meadow and the lake. At the base of the hill is the River Clywedog.Follow the path down the hillside to the bottom.
You will need to duck under or step over a few fallen trees! This part of the walk can be very muddy and when the river floods this area is inaccessible.
Continue along the path through the wild garlic and when it forks take the left hand path.
The path will lead you back up the hillside.
When you reach the top stay on this path to the end when you reach a T-junction(parts of this path are in parallel with the original path you started on). Turn right and follow the circular path around the woods.
At one point you will see a path drop down to your right and a National Trust sign for Wristleham Castle. Continue along the same path until you come to another T-junction and turn left (alternatively here you can turn right and drop down the hill to Erddig Road and the Cup and Saucer).
Follow this path and you will see Erddig Hall behind the wall on your right. Turn left at the pond then right.
You are now back on the path that you started on and can follow it right to the end and it will take you back to where you started
